Bridging the Gap

Bridging the Gap is a highly interactive exploratory program designed to help facilitate growth and development in high school student’s career exploration. The program works to create a space where participants experience and learn the value of education and are able to understand the connection to future careers. Participants are exposed to the various career opportunities within their communities and the importance of the choices they make in high school, as it relates to their career trajectories.

Participants are given the opportunity to develop and practice networking and critical thinking skills needed to prepare for their career and and/or postsecondary education plans.

PROGRAM MISSION

To expose high school students to various career opportunities within their communities and aid them in understanding the necessary skills needed to prepare for their career and/or postsecondary education plans.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

  • Increase underrepresented and underserved youth knowledge about various careers pathways and trajectories

  • Increase the number of educational opportunities available to underrepresented and underserved youth

  • Orchestrate the development of networking opportunities for underrepresented and underserved youth

  • Drive increased awareness and knowledge of educational options and career pathways

  • Prepare underrepresented and underserved youth for success in their chosen career or educational pathways

  • Provide underrepresented and underserved youth with the necessary skills for life after high school

THE APPROACH

Via interactive engagement, this program contextualizes the concepts of experiential learning and positive youth development. Guiding principles include: encouraging a judgement free, self-directed, youth-centered, character building learning environment and emphasizing the importance of self-awareness and continuous reflection as these are the keys to success.
